shop foreman

General oversight of highway signage structure fabrication operation, including oversight of materials managers, cutters, fitters, welders and mechanics

Requirements and Preferences

  • 5 - 10 years’ job shop fabrication management experience and must be a certified welding inspector
  • Experience in an AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) certified fabrication operation is preferable
  • Willingness to consider both 1st and 2nd shift schedule is a plus
  • Demonstrated continuity / tenure with previous and current employer(s) is valued

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Formulation and implementation of work schedules in coordination with plant manager
  • Coordinate all aspects of fabrication projects on the plant floor including the assignment and supervision of work
    • Layout, cutting and fitting of materials in 63,000 sq. ft. operation currently employing approximately 40 production employees on the first shift
  • Required to advise, consult, or counsel others throughout the organization in order to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas and actions
    • Must be comfortable interacting with internal engineering team regarding details of design plans and fabrication instruction
    • Must be capable of reading drawings so that any potential errors or inconsistencies can be identified and brought to the attention of engineering
  • Must be comfortable and disciplined in:
    • Adhering to and enforcing company policies and addressing personnel issues
    • Using technology systems
    • Job status documentation
  • Work is diversified and complex, resulting in problems which are not readily apparent, symptoms may be vague and facts may be incomplete
    • Solutions require the use of independent judgment, following company policies and procedures
  • May occasionally contact customers regarding drawings, schedules of other matters
  • Involves responsibilities that are defined by general objectives, requiring frequent decision making about the duties and activities of this position
    • Required to make recommendations on difficult or important operating and technical problems that may affect an entire group or department
  • Coordinate with third party service providers
    • Inspectors, galvanizers and painters
  • Frequently assist in creating new or improved methods, products or systems
    • Requires independent thinking in collaboration with other professionals to address operational, functional, customer expectation or financial considerations
